stats.fm alternatives for Apple Music

What stats.fm does well, why people look elsewhere, and six options with honest trade-offs.

By ListenalityUpdated

The main stats.fm alternatives for Apple Music are Listenality (taste profile in minutes, weekly recaps, reads Apple's export), PlayTally (play logging from install for a one-time $2.99), Song Stats, musicat, Last.fm with a scrobbler, and mystats.music (a browser tool that reads Apple's export). stats.fm itself is still a solid choice if you want lifetime stats and friend comparisons.

We make Listenality, so read this list with that in mind.

First, what stats.fm for Apple Music does

stats.fm for Apple Music is a separate app from the stats.fm Spotify app. It shows your most-played tracks, artists and albums, listening clocks and charts, badges, and friend comparisons. Core stats are free; stats.fm Plus unlocks full history and deeper analytics. It requires an active Apple Music subscription, and lifetime stats need a one-time import of your Apple Music listening history.

On 2026-09-27 it had 3.7 stars from 857 ratings on the US App Store. At least one review there describes paying for Plus and then waiting for Apple's data file before it was useful. If that is why you are looking, the options below take different approaches.

How we judged the alternatives

  • Stats in minutes: something useful on the first day.
  • Full history import: reads Apple's privacy export so your past counts.
  • Weekly recap: a new look at your listening every week.
  • Both platforms: Apple Music and YouTube Music.
  • Receipts: every claim shows the songs behind it.

These criteria reflect what we built. Where another app wins on something else, we say so.

1. Listenality

Connect Apple Music on iPhone and Listenality reads your saved Apple Music library and available add dates, then gives top artists, genres, moods, eras, a musical personality and a roast, in a few minutes and with the songs behind every claim. You do not have to wait for Apple's export to see something. From install it builds a weekly recap every Friday and a monthly recap on the 1st, and it also reads YouTube Music.

Honest limits: it still uses Apple's export for plays before install, and that file has no artist field or track ID, so matching uses song name and album and the import receipt shows how many plays matched. Ongoing tracking combines device play counts for saved tracks with Apple’s recent-play feed. Coverage can have gaps, and counted plays do not all have exact timestamps. Apple Music is supported on iPhone; the Android app supports YouTube Music.

2. PlayTally

PlayTally builds a play log from the day you install, using regular library scans. Choose any date range, hide sleep sounds, sync across devices with iCloud and export to CSV. It collects no data and costs a one-time $2.99 (4.5 stars from 381 ratings). Its page says it cannot rebuild history from before install, and it asks you to open it regularly so it can scan your library.

3. Song Stats for Apple Music

Song Stats ranks your library by play count, time listened or skips and builds weekly, monthly and yearly reports. It counts completed plays only. Premium is $1.99 a month or a one-time unlock (4.4 stars from 899 ratings). It wins on skip data and filters.

4. musicat

musicat is the closest to stats.fm's social side: top artists, tracks, albums and genres any day of the year, plus a feed, 1 to 10 ratings and Album of the Year picks. It works with Apple Music or Spotify and had 4.7 stars from 267 ratings. It needs iOS 26 or later.

5. Last.fm with a scrobbler

Last.fm's own app can scan and submit scrobbles manually for Apple Music. Finale, free and open source, adds background Apple Music scrobbling, submitted occasionally rather than live. It wins if you want one log that outlives any single app or service.

6. mystats.music (web)

If you already have Apple's export, mystats.music reads it in your browser. It says your files never leave your device and that stats disappear when you close the tab. It wins on privacy and zero install; the trade-off is nothing is saved and nothing updates.

Apple Music Replay is free and built in, with monthly top songs, artists and albums. It is worth checking before you install anything. See our Replay guide.

Questions

Is stats.fm for Apple Music free?

It is free to download with core stats free. stats.fm Plus, sold by in-app purchase, unlocks full history, badges and deeper analytics, according to its App Store page.

Why does stats.fm need my Apple Music data file?

Apple shares only recent plays with apps. For lifetime stats, stats.fm asks for a one-time import of the listening history you download from Apple's privacy site.

Which stats.fm alternative does not need Apple's export?

PlayTally and Song Stats work from what Apple Music shares with them, and Listenality gives a taste profile from your library right away. Only apps that read the export can show plays from before install.

Which alternative is best for exact play counts?

PlayTally builds a log after installation and supports date ranges, but its publisher recommends regular library scans. We have not run a controlled accuracy comparison, so we cannot name an exact-count winner.

Can I use Listenality and stats.fm together?

Yes. Both read the same Apple export, and Listenality changes nothing in your library except a playlist you ask its Playlist Builder to save.

Listenality supports Apple Music and YouTube Music on iPhone, and YouTube Music on Android.
